Purpose

The purpose of Centre for Patient Involvement is to create a platform to share information relating to verity of approaches seeking patient feedback; and using feedback to improve clinical services and patient outcomes.

The origin for this project is based in the wish to improve the effectiveness of clinical teams and improving clinical outcomes.

Certain sense of urgency exists with the observations that in long term conditions – compliance is often about 50%. For example some 17,000 hip fractures could be prevented (and the associated morbidity and with up to 20% mortality in the first month of fracture), substantial proportion of heart attaches and strokes, etc could be prevented and disease burden reduces if compliance was improved.

One approach to improving compliance is to continuously and systematically seek and act on patient feedback on the quality of clinical care they receive in every healthcare setting. Please share your efforts in this area and provide comment on the items featured here.

The Project Aspirations

The aspiration of the Centre for Patient Involvement is to encourage continuous (and where possible real-time) patient feedback, continuous small improvements in patient care which ultimately improve and clinical outcomes.

Initially the particular focus is on treatment compliance. By paying m ore attention to compliance, we can improve the overall compliance from 50% and translate the costly and time consuming efforts to make clinical diagnosis into actual improved clinical outcomes for patients.

The idea behind the website is to create a platform for sharing information and materials to help with putting into practice approaches for patient feedback and using feedback to improve clinical care and better patient outcomes.

Our aspiration is to have 100 pilots by the end of the 2010.
